Fourth time in the history the event is getting postponed. It was previously postponed for the following reasons.
And now because for the COVID 19 pandemic.
The 93rd Oscars will now take place on April 25th, 2021 instead of February 28th, 2021. "For over a century, movies have played an important role in comforting, inspiring, and entertaining us during the darkest of times. They certainly have this year. Our hope, in extending the eligibility period and our Awards date, is to provide the flexibility filmmakers need to finish and release their films without being penalized for something beyond anyone's control," said Academy President David Rubin and Academy CEO Dawn Hudson in a joint statement.
The Academy also extended the Eligibility window to End of February. "They certainly have this year. Our hope, in extending the eligibility period and our awards date, is to provide the flexibility filmmakers need to finish and release their films without being penalised for something beyond anyone's control.
"This coming Oscars and the opening of our new museum will mark a historic moment, gathering movie fans around the world to unite through cinema."
Nominations will be announced on March 15, 2021.
