Happy B'day Surya Sivakumar-All Rounder of Tamil Cinema

Surya Sivakumar has been the prominent actor in South India for almost 23 years. He has huge craze not only in Tamilnadu, but also in Andhrapradesh, Karnataka and kerala. He is said to be possess huge fan base from other states next to Rajinikanth. His birthday is celebrated grandly across South India on 23 July of every year. Beside being a great actor, he is also a well-made human being. Fans shower their love on him by creating hashtags and making a trend. Recently a hashtag for Suriya CPD has become as huge trend and Surya tops in the list of most retweeted actor for CPD in India. Suriya, the eldest son of Tamil actor Sivakumar and elder brother of actor Karthi is a actor,producer also a singer. He’s married to a co-star Jyothika in 2006. In 2008, he began Agaram Foundarion which raises funds for many children for their education and other basic needs. He made his debut as a Television representator in 2013 for a Tv show called ‘Neengalum Vellalaam Oru Kodi’ hosted by Vijay Tv.

Suriya made his acting debut in ‘Nerukku Ner’ directed by Vasanth. Then he used to go with flow of love cum romantic movies which made him a decent front-end actor in Tamil film Industry. Then he made a changeover from loverboy to a rugged boy through Bala’s creation Nandha. He had a major blockbuster through GVM’s Khakha Khakha which is said to be his first major commercial thriller and also allocated him in the list of action heroes among other actors. Then he played a role as conman in a cult classic Pithamagan in which Vikram was given a National Award. Ghajini and Vaaranam Ayiram are said to be main reason for sudden increase of his fanbase in other states like kerala and Karnataka. Singam series has kept him in a position to be a competitor to his rivals in his generation like Thala and Thalapathy.

1. Vaaranam Ayiram (2008)

Vaaranam Ayiram is the tamil-language musical drama written and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. Surya played dual role as son and Father. Suriya, a military official who was in a military operation when he gets the news of his father’s demise. He then recalls his bond he shared with his father as they grow up together helping each other. The film also contains romance and tragedy. Simran played as a role of a lovable mother. Divya Spandhana and Sameera Reddy played their romantic tale. The album by Harris Jayaraj ruled our playlist even for now. The film won many awards including National Film award for best feature film in Tamil.

2. Ghajini (2005)

Sanjay Ramasamy, a reputed businessman was hit by an Iron Rod when he tries to save his girlfriend. As he became a victim of anterograde Amnesia, he was unable to remember anything beyond fifteen minutes. Under such conditions, he sets out to avenge the people who were responsible for his girlfriend’s death. This film really depicts the master touch of A.R.Murugadoss, as he handled the screenplay in non-linear manner which are very rare in those days. Harris-jayaraj and surya combination once again did magic. ‘Oru malai ilaveyil neram’ and ‘suttrum vili chudare’ are the major musical pillars for this love cum scientific thriller. The film dubbed in Malayalam and Telugu and also remade in Hindi under same name. Amir khan played as alternate for surya while AR Rahman has been the composer in Hindi version.

3. Khakha Khakha (2003)

Directed by Gautam Vaudev Menon, this movie is based on a cop ACP Anbuselvan(Surya) who does his duty by killing a gangster. But Pandya, brother of dead gangster took his revenge on Surya by killing Maya( Jyothika ). How Anbulelvan finishes off Pandya and his gang is what the story is about. As both Surya and Gautham Vasudev Menon were reputed in romantic dramas in those days, this was their first try in action block which results in a blockbuster. Though kakha-kakha has been remade as Gharshana in Telugu, Tamil version has made many Telugu fans attracted to Surya. This movie has been dubbed in Malayalam too. In Kannada, it is remade in the name of Dandam Dashagunam but it is no match to original version. Musically, this movie is a great success. Harris Jayaraj and Jeevan were awarded with filmfare for best music and best villain respectively.

4. Ayan (2009)

K.V.Anand made his directorial debut through this movie. The story is about a youngster Deva who indulges in a smuggling gang run by Das(Prabhu). Due to competition in smuggling business, conflicts occurs with Kamalesh, who tries to overtake Das in Smuggling. The plots moves in different countries like Namibia, Malaysia, Zanzibar, South Africa and will clearly depicts the dark side of drug mafia. Harris -Suriya combo once again clicked after hattrick success of Varanam Ayiram, Kakha-Kakha and Ghajini. Harris-jayaraj is honoured with Filmware awards -South in 2009 and Surya was awarded with Best Entertainer in Vijay Awards 2009. This movie is dubbed in Telugu as Veedokkade in same year which receives huge applause from Telugu audience.

5. Singam Series

The three-parted Cop-mass commercial thriller created a huge buzz among Tamilnadu. All the three parts revolves around a honest police officer Durai SIngam, who tries to eliminate corruption from society. All the parts receives good response from the audience from all over South India. Devi Sri Prasaad has been the composer for Singam 1 and Singam 2 where as Harish Jayaraj composed for Singam 3. All the three parts dubbed in Malayalam and Telugu and receives the good response. Singam series was remade in Bollywood under same name. Ajay Devgan played as alternate for Surya.
